Hello! My name is Kalie Peters, and I play competitive underwater rugby in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I am proud to say that I have been selected as one of 15 women to represent Team Canada at the 12th CMAS Underwater Rugby World Championships in July of 2023 and I would love to be apart of this amazing experience! The World Championships are the highest level in my sport, which only happen once every 4 years. This World Championships is extra special to me as it will be hosted in Montreal; the first time Canada has been chosen as a host Nation! I've been active for my entire life. I played a number of sports growing up, with underwater football being my core passion for 10+ years. I have played in the Canadian Underwater Football Championships many times, and my team was victorious. But even with all the sports I was involved in, underwater rugby was never on my radar. Luckily, that all changed in August 2018 when I was invited to an underwater rugby tournament in Toronto by Team Canada's women's coach and completed my first competition playing as a Forward! Being new to the sport, my goal was simply to learn my position, train hard, be a good teammate, and out-perform the competition every time I went into a practice or game. I quickly developed my offensive abilities and realized that underwater rugby was exactly the right sport for me. I entertained the idea of one day playing for Team Canada, but never expected I'd make it this far. To make Team Canada – what an honour! My history in sport and experience at the underwater rugby tournament have given me the foundation and passion for taking my underwater rugby career to the next level and representing my country! Now that I have reached this goal of making the Underwater Rugby National Team, there are costs that come with competing. As a player of Team Canada, I am left to fund all expenses for travel, accommodations, and fees during the competition and training. The $6000 I am raising will help cover those base costs. Any excess will be put towards helping my other team members who need financial assistance. I need your help! Representing one's country at the highest level in any sport requires great sacrifice; physical, mental and especially financial. Underwater Rugby is no different.
